Even the referees don’t like NFL’s celebration rule

There have been plenty of people who have voiced their displeasure about the NFL’s celebration rule. Many fans and players believe that the NFL is trying to take the fun out of the game by penalizing over the top celebrations. But it sounds like the players and fans aren’t the only ones who are fed up with the rule. According to Scott Green who is the head NFL Referees Association, the guys in the stripes want to eliminate the celebration rule.

“Nothing is worse than someone going 80 yards for a touchdown and then we’re trying to figure out does that warrant a flag for what he’s doing in the end zone,” Green said. “We don’t really enjoy that. If we could get to a point where it would simply be fines by the league, that would be great.

“The issue we’ll still have is that guys can get pretty creative out there. The question of whether it’s a foul or not a foul, hopefully we’ll get closer to more of a black-and-white situation.”

I love the fact that the referees don’t want to penalize the players for having a little fun after scoring a touchdown. And besides, referees are fans just like the rest of us.
