After Texas switched offensive coordinators, it looks like a QB switch might be coming as well

rbb_ut_football_practice_5_1Texas Longhorns fans are still trying to figure out what happened in South Bend last Saturday night. Notre Dame showed why many believe that they will make the College Football Playoffs after dominating the Longhorns. After that game, many fans have questioned the direction of the Longhorns program which made head coach Charlie Strong to make some changes. Strong stripped Shawn Watson play calling duties and gave them to wide receivers coach Jay Norvell. But it also looks like there might be a shakeup at the quarterback position with Tyrone Swoopes and Jerrod Heard. Senior running back Jonathan Gray said that Swoopes and Heard took the same amount of reps with the first team in practice on Tuesday.

“I think they got the same amount of reps,” Gray said. “That’s one of the coach’s deals. Coach Watson, he’s in control of the quarterbacks.”

Strong acknowledged this and said both will probably play against Rice on Saturday.

“Both quarterbacks are going to have to play and they’re both going to have to succeed because we want to play both of them,” Strong said. “We’ve always (considered) Jerrod. I know he didn’t play in the second half the other night but that’s always been a part of our game plan.”

“We’ll go through this week,” Strong said. “At the end of the week we’ll make that decision.”

Strong needs to get things turned around quick because it looks like he won’t get four to five years to rebuild this program.
