14-year-old Bears fan is trying to fight a brain tumor by naming it Aaron Rodgers

download (63)I know there are a lot of fans who are devoted to their teams but one Chicago Bears fan has taken it to another level. 14-year-old Miguel Reyes is a big Bears fan, but right now is in the most important fight in his life. Reyes has a brain tumor that develop last year and he has been fighting it ever since. While the tumor has stopped growing, he still is having problems with his vision.Peg Kelly is Reyes former teacher and also a Green Bay Packers fan has develop a close friendship with the 14-year-old. To help Reyes in his fight, Kelly told him give his tumor a name. Being a big Bears fan, Reyes chose to name his tumor after quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Not many friendships start with those three words, especially when they’re directed at a die-hard Green Bay fan. However, one did for Concord Junior High School teacher Peg Kelly and true-blue Chicago Bears devotee Miguel Reyes. Their friendship carried on through the rivalry and continued after Miguel was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year.

If anything, the rivalry strengthened their relationship.

“I said, ‘You need to name that tumor so we can kill it,’” Kelly said. “You know what he named it? Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers. What a stinker!”

“I knew he was going to be going through a long battle,” Kelly said. “I thought they could train her to alert them if Miguel was in trouble.” Kelly also thought the teenager could use a friend. When she brought the idea up to Christy, she agreed.

“He needs to have someone that he can hold on to, and cry and laugh and talk to,” Reyes said. “He needs someone that doesn’t treat him like he’s sick.”

That is great stuff from Reyes and Kelly and the relationship they have with one another is just great. I wish Reyes nothing but the best and will root him on to beat his tumor.
