NFL Official: “Sometimes footballs could have leaks right out the box”

Denver Broncos v New England PatriotsCommissioner Roger Goodell made us wait for months but finally decided to suspend New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for the first four games in the 2015 season. While Goodell decision is final, we all know that this is not over. Brady plans to fight the suspension along with the NFLPA standing behind him as well. While we await more news about Brady’s appeal, one long time NFL official had some interesting things to say. Gary Slaughter was an NFL official for 12 years before he became the Central Region supervisor of officials. Slaughter says that some footballs could have leaks right out the box.

These are man-made products,” Slaughter said. “There is a bladder and a valve. We have all checked them for many years. Sometimes when you check the ball in the locker room right out of the box, there could be a problem. They could have a slow leak, and you wouldn’t even know it at the time.”

I’m sure Patriots fans are already pissed about this whole thing and these comments by Slaughter won’t help. I think this situation with Brady is going to hover over the Patriots’ preseason until it gets resolved.
