Report: “Little urgency” shown by Phillip Rivers in contract talks with the Chargers

images (54)San Diego Chargers QB Phillip Rivers saw his name reportedly in trade talks during the NFL Draft last May. When the dust settled on the draft, Rivers was still with the Chargers and is preparing for the 2015 season. Since then, the organization has been in talks with Rivers about a contract extension. But it looks like their star QB doesn’t seem to concerned about his contract situation. According to Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego, Rivers has shown little urgency in contract talks with the Chargers.

As training camp nears, Rivers remains under contract through 2015 and 2015 alone. His expressed comfort in allowing the year to play out as such has been followed by an appropriate pace of action, little urgency coming from his side of the negotiation table in recent months as the Chargers maintain the hope to sign him long term.

I think Rivers wants to stay in San Diego but, also knows that this is a business. There is nothing wrong with keeping your options open and I think that is what Rivers is doing.
