Report: Dario Saric’s contract overseas won’t allow him to join the Sixers until 2016

2014 NBA DraftWhile most Philadelphia 76ers fans are still talking about this year’s first round pick Jahlil Okafor, many have forgotten about their 2014 first round pick. Big man Dario Saric was selected in with the 12th overall pick with the understanding that he would stay overseas for a few years. Now now that one season has passed, Saric planned on joining the Sixers this summer, but it looks like he won’t be able too. According to David Pick of Basketball Insiders, Saric’s overseas contract won’t allow him to join the Sixers until 2016.

“Saric told people he wanted to join Philadelphia now, but couldn’t because his contract had no out-clause,” a source told Basketball Insiders.

Despite the Sixers’ late push to bring him over as soon as possible, negotiations with Turkish finalist Anadolu Efes failed to materialize. Saric is handcuffed overseas until 2016, but it was clear, sources familiar with his wishes said, that he wanted to join Philadelphia.

This is very disappointing news for Sixers fans who want all their young talent available so they can see what the future holds for the franchise.
