Golden Tate says it’s time for the Lions to take that next step

USP NFL: MINNESOTA VIKINGS AT DETROIT LIONS S FBN USA MIDetroit Lions WR Golden Tate proved to be a good free agent pickup as many believed he was the team’s best player by the end of the season. Even though the Lions lost Ndamukong Suh in free agency, Tate still believes that this team is one of the NFC’s best. While many believe that Green Bay Packers are considered the favorite to win the NFC North, Tate says it’s time for the Lions to take that next step.

“I think it’s time for us to consistently, year in and year out, win ballgames,” receiver Golden Tate said today, in a phone interview with the Free Press. “I think we have the personnel. I think we have the coach, the coaching staff. I think we have a heck of a fan base.

“It’s time. We’re trying to shake ‘the same old Lions.’ We’re trying to become — I thought we were good — I think we’re trying to become elite now. I think we’re trying to compete with the Packers and give them a run for their money and take over our division year in and year out.”

The Lions are very talented and I do expect them to make the playoffs again this year. But I think the loss of Suh is going to really hurt their defense and is one of the main reason why the Packers are the front-runners to win the division.
