Report: Now that Vlade Divac is in control, Kings GM Pete D’Alessandro is headed back to Denver

maxresdefault (4)Sacramento Kings general manager Pete D’Alessandro upset a lot of people with the way he fired former coach Mike Malone. D’Alessandro claimed that Malone’s firing was due to wins and losses, but he also wanted the Kings to play a different style of basketball. Since then, owner Vivek Ranadive has been slowly taking decision making power from D’Alessandro to the point where Vlade Divac is in control. Now that he no control over what happens with the Kings organization, D’Alessandro is on the move. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, D’Alessandro is leaving the Kings to accept a front-office job with two Denver sports organizations.

Sacramento Kings general manager Pete D’Alessandro is finalizing a deal to return to a front-office job with the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche organizations, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

D’Alessandro will serve in an operations position, answering to president Josh Kroenke, league sources said. A formal agreement and title will be completed on Thursday, sources said.

For D’Alessandro, this move is an escape hatch out of a Kings organization in which owner Vivek Ranadive usurped his authority as general manager. Ranadive hired Vlade Divac to oversee basketball operations, despite the fact that he hasn’t been around the NBA for a decade.

The crazy thing about this that Malone is a candidate for the Nuggets head coach position. It will be interesting to see how things turn out in Denver.
