Report: Knicks are seriously considering Cameron Payne in the NBA Draft

hi-res-9f82de2529e67ee4d563f74752877b95_crop_exactYou got to love all of the rumors that are starting to come out since the NBA Draft is a few weeks away. I knew that the New York Knicks would be involved in a lot of these rumors and this will continue until draft night. After there was a report about how enamored the Knicks were with Kentucky’s Trey Lyles. They also love what Duke’s Justice Winslow brings to the table as well. But now it sounds like they have their eyes on a point guard whose stock is rising. According to Ian Begley of ESPN, the Knicks are seriously considering Murray State point guard Cameron Payne in the NBA Draft.

League sources with knowledge of the team’s thinking say the Knicks are doing more than their due diligence by working out Payne; they are “serious” about considering him in the draft, those sources say.

Payne is widely viewed as a player who will be taken in the middle-to-late first round. So the Knicks’ interest in Payne and, to a lesser degree, their interest in Willie Cauley-Stein, is a sign that they are at least considering trading down from No. 4.

Both Knicks president Phil Jackson and GM Steve Mills have said that the organization would consider all of its options with the pick, including the possibility of trading down.

Obviously, the Knicks would have to trade down towards the middle part of the draft if they decided to take Payne. I personally don’t think that this will happen though.
