Report: Demaryius Thomas not expected to be at Broncos minicamp

demaryius-thomasThe Denver Broncos have a serious problem brewing with their star WR Demaryius Thomas. The Broncos leading receiver has made it known that he is looking for a new contract. He is also aiming to be the highest paid receiver in the NFL, which is Detroit Lions’ Calvin Johnson. The Broncos franchise tagged Thomas, who will make $12.823 million this season once he signs the tender. But since he hasn’t signed yet, don’t expect to see Thomas anytime soon. According to Mike Klis of 9NEWS, Thomas is not expected to be at the three-day Broncos minicamp.

Signing Thomas to a multi-year deal, though, won’t easy. It will be expensive. The Broncos haven’t signed Thomas yet and because there isn’t an agreement, he won’t be attending the team’s three-day mandatory minicamp that runs Tuesday through Thursday.

The Denver Broncos’ star receiver has been a no-show through the team’s conditioning and organized team activities (OTAs) this offseason and his absence is expected to continue — possibly into training camp if a multi-year contract agreement is not reached by July 15.

Even though the camp is mandatory, Thomas is not under contract so he won’t be fined for not showing up. The Broncos can’t let this linger into the next off-season because Von Miller’s contract will be up as well. At that point, they will have to choose between two of their star players.
