Joe Montana on leaving the 49ers: “It never should have happened to begin with”

download (30)Hall of Fame QB Joe Montana hasn’t played in the NFL in twenty years, but his impact on the game is still being felt to this day. Montana is 4-0 in the Super Bowl and more amazing than that, he has never threw an interception in the big game. Montana did a Q&A at the inaugural 2015 Best of SW Missouri Preps event and touched on a lot of different topics. One of the questions that Montana was asked was about his time with the Kansas City Chiefs after spending his whole career with the San Francisco 49ers. The Hall of Famer says he didn’t have any regrets in Kansas City but it shouldn’t happened in the first place.

“I don’t have any regrets about my time in Kansas City,” Montana said. “Fortunately for me, it was a great time. We made some great friends, it was a great organization and I had some great teammates. That’s what it was all about.

“But it never should have happened to begin with. But it is what it is, and you have to learn to move on and make the best of it.”

At the time. Montana was still a good QB, but Steve Young was younger and good as well. I think Montana understands why the 49ers moved on from him, but he still wasn’t happy about it.
