Charlotte Hornets rookie P.J. Hairston has been in the news for the wrong reasons. After punching a high schooler during a pickup game, Hairston apologized but still was charged.
Hairston then found himself in the spotlight after swapping cars with Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon. After the swap, Gordon ended up getting pulled over and charged with DWI. Now Hairston has another situation regarding his agent. Hairston’s agent Juan Morrow says that he is a certified player agent, but according to Kami Mattioli of Sporting News, the NBPA doesn’t agree.
Hairston’s agent, Juan Morrow, identifies himself as a “certified player agent” on his website and social media profiles for his agency, Upside Media Group.
According to the National Basketball Players Association, that’s not true.
In fact, Robert Gadson, director of the NBPA’s Security and Agent Administration Department told Sporting News on Thursday that there is “no record of a Juan Morrow in (the NBPA’s) files, nor is there record of an applicant by that name.”
If Morrow was to negotiate Hairston’s contract, he could cause the Hornets to be fined $50,000. I think it’s safe to say that Hairston will be looking for another agent.
