Tyrann Mathieu says he thought about committing suicide while in jail

tyrann-mathieu-5Arizona Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu has been through a lot to make it to the NFL. He was kicked off of LSU football team for failing multiple drug test. He was also arrested when police searched his apartment and found marijuana.

With his life quickly spiraling out of control, Mathieu found himself in jail and he started to question himself. Mathieu says that while he was in jail,  he thought about committing suicide.

“I’m sitting in that jail cell thinking, ‘I don’t know if I want to go back out there and face the music,’ ” he said. “I didn’t know how I was going to commit suicide in the cell, but that was the direction my life was heading.”

Encouragement from his cellmates made him think twice.

“Believe it or not, my cellmates were encouraging me, telling me I was a good football player; telling me I don’t need to be thinking about this,” Mathieu said. “That’s probably why I really didn’t do it, but there was an actual moment where I was thinking about, and I’ll never forget that feeling.”

Mathieu is a terrific football player and I’m glad that he has gotten his life together.
