The Jacksonville Jaguars are making headlines with their renovations at EverBank Field. The upgrades to EverBank Field are part of a plan that will cost $63 million. The upgrades the Jaguars plan to make starts with the largest outdoor video board. Now with the NFL telling teams that Wi-Fi has to be in all stadiums, the taxpayers of Jacksonville will spend $1.25 million to improve Wi-Fi connections.
The total cost of the upgraded wifi is $4 million. The City of Jacksonville is borrowing the $1,250,000 for their portion of the project and the Jaguars contributing $1,800,000. The remainder of the cost will be covered by savings from the ongoing construction of the new video boards, cabana spaces and more.
The project comes as the result of new NFL requirements to equip the stadiums with wifi. Until this point, EverBank only had limited wifi in press areas. Lamping says it’s important to give fans an easy way to keep track of what’s happening in other football news or post photos and updates on social media.
Being a native of Jacksonville, all I can say is that the upgrades are nice, but if the team continues to lose you’re going to hear people complain about putting this money up for nothing.
