Winning a National Championship has paid off big time for UConn head coach Kevin Ollie. After hearing his name mentioned for multiple NBA head coaching jobs, Ollie signed an 5-year extension through 2018-2019 season. That’s pretty good for a guy who didn’t know what his future would be after taking over for Jim Calhoun.
With speculation of NBA job openings in his future, Ollie claims that he will be at UConn for the duration of his contract.
“It gives me security and the understanding I’m going to be here a long time,” said Ollie, who signed a five-year contract on May 23. “There is going to be speculation every year, but the kids know I have their backs and their best interests at heart. I have a five-year contract and I believe I’m going to be here the whole five years.”
“There’s no place else I’d rather be,” he said. “Questions about leaving [UConn], I kept telling you all the same things and you kept coming up with other questions. But I’m not going anywhere.”
Now we have heard coaches say this before and some of them do stay true to to their word. Time will tell if Ollie will do the same.
