The NBA announced the six participants for the 2014 Sprite Slam Dunk contest. But unlike prior years, the participants will not be participating as an individual. Instead, they will be competing as a team.
On the Eastern Conference team, the participants are Paul George – who apparently doesn’t think this new format is a joke, Terrence Ross, and John Wall.
On the Western Conference team, the participants are Harrison Barnes, Damian Lillard, and Ben McLemore.
The competition will consist of a “Freestyle Round” and a “Battle Round”. In the Freestyle Round dunkers will have 90 seconds to attempt as many dunks as they like. Once every dunker has had a chance, the judges will choose either the East team or the West team as the winner.
In the Battle Round, East and West participates will go head-to-head with the judges choosing the winner. The loser of a head-to-head matchup will be eliminated from the competition. The 2014 Sprite Slam Dunk champion will be the first team to win three battles.
