NFL could move Super Bowl XLIX due to potential Arizona law

Arizona Super BowlRemember when there was talk that Super Bowl XLVIII might be move due to weather? We all know that it didn’t happen.  But now there is talk that next year’s Super Bowl could be moved.

The state of Arizona is looking to pass Bill 1062,which would allow business owners to deny service to gay couples on religious grounds. And if the law passes, the NFL could move the Super Bowl to another city.

NFL Network’s Albert Breer  spoke with a representative from the NFL and asked if they would move the Super Bowl because of Bill 1062 and here is their statement.

“Our policies emphasize tolerance and inclusiveness, and prohibit discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other improper standard. We are following the issue in Arizona and will continue to do so should the bill be signed into law, but will decline further comment at this time.”

Breer also asked if  the NFL already had an alternate site picked but the league declined to comment. I think the NFL is in a tight situation when is comes to this issue. With Arizona letting owners choose to accept or deny gay couples is a very big deal especially with what’s been going on with Michael Sam. I think the NFL knows that some would support this bill, so keeping their options open probably is the best case scenario.
