First female to play running back in a professional football game gets lit up, talks trash

Jennifer WelterThe woman pictured to the left is named Jennifer Welter and she’s the first female to play running back in a professional football game.

Welter, who is 5-2, 130 pounds, plays for the Texas Revolution of the Indoor Football League. Welter has been playing linebacker for the Dallas Diamonds of the Women’s Football Alliance since 2004, but was moved to running back when she joined the Revolution.

Welter’s first carry came with 6:20 left in the third quarter and ended with her being lit up by a North Texas Crunch defender. Welter ended the game with three carries for -2 yards and they all ended with much larger men lighting her up.

Despite getting lit up every time, Welter quickly popped up after each of her three carries. And after he first carry, she even talked a little trash to North Texas Crunch defensive lineman Cedric Hearvey.

“I said, ‘Is that all you got?’ ” Welter said she told Hearvey after the first of her three carries for the Texas Revolution. “They (Crunch players) were getting all alive, and I had to say something. I didn’t want them to think I was intimidated.”

This is just fantastic.
