Thiago Silva made his first court appearance earlier today after being arrested on multiple charges stemming from a domestic dispute and a standoff with police. The judge threw out the felony attempted murder charge citing lack of evidence, but ruled that Silva will remain in custody without bond.
According to TMZ, Silva’s lawyer attempted to argue that his client “was being unfairly judged because of his occupation as a UFC fighter and that “there’s an overreaction [with the charges] simply because the man, what he does for a living.”
Silva’s lawyer also told the court that Silva is dead broke “and desperately needs the paycheck he’ll receive for his scheduled fight in Dallas at UFC 171.”
Unfortunately for Silva, that UFC paycheck may not be waiting for him. TMZ reached out to UFC head man Dana White to get his comment and his response was, “This guy will never fight in the UFC again.”
White is known to fly off the handle, so we’ll see if Silva is truly not welcomed back to the UFC if his legal matters are cleared up.
