It’s only Wednesday, but this has to be one of, if not the worst week of Bo Pelini’s professional career. On Monday, we talked about Pelini being on the hot seat after his Cornhuskers gave up 38 unanswered points in a 41-21 loss to UCLA on Saturday.
Then, the now infamous audio of hurling profanities about Nebraska fans in 2011 surfaced on Monday night and everything changed. By Tuesday, some Nebraska fans had decided that they’ve finally seen the real Bo Pelini and began calling for his head.
Fast forward to Wednesday and things haven’t gotten any better for Pelini. Of course, he still has problems with parts of the fanbase. But most importantly, Pelini seems to also have problems within the university. Namely AD Shawn Eichorst and Chancellor Harvey Perlman.
According to the Lincoln Journal Star, Pelini has had discussions with both Eichorst and Perlman, but he hasn’t gotten any assurances from either of them that he’ll keep his job.
On Monday night, Pelini talked in person about the issue with Husker athletic director Shawn Eichorst and by phone with UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman.
But he said he had not had any further conversations with either of the men Tuesday.
With nothing said, Pelini was still planning on coaching in Saturday’s game against South Dakota State.
“I haven’t been given any assurances, but you just proceed with the information you have, and I’m the head football coach until someone says different,” Pelini said.
Again, it’s Wednesday and the fact that no one has come out and said, “Bo Pelini will remain the coach at Nebraska” is very problematic in my view.
