You remember what happened in the Plaxico Burress gun charge case, right? Burress shot himself in a New York night club, pled guilty to the charges and spent two years in prison. Well, according a spokeswoman for the Queens District Attorney’s, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da’Quan Bowers was arrested at New York’s LaGuardia Airport after a loaded .40-caliber gun was found in his bag. He was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon on the second degree, the same charges Plaxico Burress spent time on.
Bowers reportedly did not attempt to take the gun through security. Instead, he informed airline employees that he had the firearm at the check-in counter.
The charges carry a minimum sentence of 3 ½ years in prison. Both the Bucanneers and the NFL released statements on the arrest.
The Buccaneers released a statement reading: “We are aware of the situation and are gathering information. We will withhold comment until we know all the facts.”
The NFL will also review the matter.
Said league spokesman Greg Aiello: “It will be reviewed under our league policies.”
