ESPN denies that Brent Musburger said Holly Rowe ‘was smoking tonight’

Ol’ Brent Musburger has once again let his mouth put him in a situation where people can question him. During the BCS National Championship Game, Musburger fell in love with AJ McCarron’s girlfriend Katherine Webb live on national television. That prompted ESPN to apologize on Musburger’s behalf and give him a little slap on the wrist.

But last night Musburger ended ESPN’s broadcast of last night’s game between Baylor and Kansas with a statement that had the word “smoking” in the same sentence as ESPN’s Holly Rowe.

The statement in whole went something like this:

For Fran Fraschilla and Holly Rowe, who was really smoking [inaudible] tonight, I want to say so long from Lawrence

Some say that the inaudible portion of Musburger’s statement isn’t actually inaudible. Because he basically said Rowe was “smoking tonight”.

But ESPN disagrees and claims that Musburger said Rowe was “smoking it tonight”.

UPDATE: Many readers have chimed in and believe that Musburger said, “it was really smoking tonight.”

  1. Robert K. Johnston says:

    Yo, Brent–YOU BLEW IT!
They went easy on you last time–do not expect them to be so lenient with you this time, Bubba!

  2. THE TRUTH says:

This entire conversation is ridiculous….it sad to see a modern day “witch hunt”, in trying to catch a man in anything he says…… guys are “Smokin…IT..”

    • Robert K. Johnston says:

First off the bat, Respondent “THE TRUTH,” I do not do the “sticky ickky,” as you so imply here–in fact, I’m highly allergic to it!

Second–who say’s I’m trying to crucify Mr. Musburger here? He blew it with his comment, and this IS his second offense with ESPN. That is why I said that they may not go so easy on him this time.

But then again, I have been wrong before…Brent might just get another slap on the wrist.
Who knows in this flipped-over world?

  4. I thought he was going to say something classy like “Look at the fun-bags on that hose-hound.” (Thank you Jim Carrey in Dumb & Dumber).
He could have said something class-less like, “I’d like to fill her full of luv-lava.”

  5. Carlos Valdez says:

What he was referring to was the story earlier in the game that Holly Rowe worked out with KU’s strength and conditioning coach , Andrea Hudy. Holly said she would be regretting it the next morning, and something was said then about smoking. Besides, Holly Rowe is smoking and she knows it.

  6. “it was really smoking tonight.”

He was signing off and recapping the game action. Like Mickey Redmond would say, “We have a barn burner going.”

This is ridiculous. Stop acting like children.

  7. I have heard the replay many times and never did Musberger Holly Rowe was “smoking hot”. The word “it” is plainly heard.
