Manny Pacquiao’s wife and mother want him to retire

Manny Pacquiao was knocked out cold in the 6th round in his KO loss to Juan Manuel Marquez. But despite his second straight defeat, Pacquiao has vowed not to retire. A vow that goes against the wishes of both his wife, Jinkee Pacquiao and his mother, Dionisia.

The former eight-division world champion wiped tears from his eyes listening to his wife, Jinkee, make a tearful appeal on camera for her husband, who turns 34 next week, to hang up his gloves.

“When you see your husband get hurt, you cannot even sleep,” she said in an interview on the GMA Network.

Asked if she wanted her husband to retire from boxing, she said: “You know the answer to that. He knows what I am asking him.”

Pacquiao’s mother revealed in a separate interview that she has been asking him to retire for a while now.

“I have long asked you son, it is time to retire because you started boxing at such a young age. I always pray that he will stop. I asked God to tell my son to stop,” she said.

But against both their wishes, Pacquiao quickly announced that he would fight again in April.

“I’m ready to fight in April,” Pacquiao told Manila-based sportswriters in a customized luxury bus that took them from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas to Hollywood.

We know he may be ready to fight again, but it may be time for Pacquiao to step aside.
