Pat Dye has been pretty vocal about Auburn football in past week or so. And to be completely honest, his comments seem to be pretty off the wall. Case in point: Dye’s statement that he wouldn’t “swap Gene Chizik for ten Nick Sabans.”
Now see, that’s crazy talk and he later apologized so he knows that’s crazy talk. But what isn’t considered crazy talk is anything that Dye says about the Auburn program. Because frankly, Dye most likely knows, or thinks he knows, what’s going on behind doors at Auburn. And if you’re Chizik, you’re thrilled about what Dye had to say on the Bo Mattingly show on Wednesday.
When asked if Chizik could survive the season if things don’t improve, Dye not only said yes. He made a bold statement about Chizik’s job status.
“Listen,” Dye said. “He wouldn’t be in trouble if he didn’t win another game.”
So Chizik will return no matter what?
“Absolutely,” Dye said.
It’s one thing to say this during a radio interview in October and another to say the same thing in December after watching Auburn’s season go down the drain.
No matter what Dye says, let Auburn not win another game this season. The fan backlash will be too much for Auburn not to at least consider making a change.
