For whatever reason, NFL veterans feel the need to rain on the RGIII parade. Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora began the season by proclaiming that he would call the rookie quarterback “Bob Griffin” because he hadn’t earned the right to be called RGIII. And after just one game Umenyiora had seen enough to start calling Griffin “RGIII”.
But apparently one game is not enough for Vikings defensive end Jared Allen. Even if in that one game a player almost singlehandedly won the game for his team. Because that’s what RGIII did against the Vikings on Sunday. But be that as it may, Allen says he’s not ready to crown RGIII anything yet.
“I’m not going to crown him anything yet,” Allen told Comcast SportsNet after Sunday’s game. “He had a good game. Hats off to him, he ran really well. But to be great in this league, you have to do it for years and years and years. So, I wish him all the best, except next time when we play him.”
Ran really well? Ran really well?
60 yards is “ran really well.” 138 yards is “ran all over us.”
But we understand where Allen is coming from. We wouldn’t want to crown a rookie quarterback that ran all of our team either.
