Carmelo Anthony gave Knicks fans a brief couple of minutes of optimism when he told reporters that he was “done trying to score 30, 35, 40 points for us to win a basketball game.” He then even added, “I don’t want that role anymore.”
Let’s just think about this a moment. A Carmelo Anthony that picks his spot to score, distributes the basketball, and is a better overall player? Knicks fans would welcome that, right?
Well, sadly it won’t be happening. Because five minutes later, Anthony clarified his earlier statement and basically said he’s still going to try to score.
“When I say scoring less, I don’t want to say I’m not going to score the basketball. I can never stop doing that,” he said. “That’s what I do best.”
Sorry Knicks fans. But that first statement got you all excited didn’t it?
