Back in July during an interview on WFAN, Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora wondered why people were calling Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III “RG3”. In Umenyiora’s eyes, Griffin hadn’t done anything in the NFL yet so he didn’t deserve to have that nickname. So instead, he would call him “Bob Griffin”.
Predictably, Griffin said he was fine with being called “Bob Griffin” and we thought nothing more about it.
Fast forward to Griffin passing for 320 yards and two touchdowns in a win over the Saints in Week and now Umenyiora is more than ready to call Griffin “RG3”.
“Oh, um, RGIII? What is he? What does he like to be called? What does he want me to call him?”
“Yes. I will call him RGIII.”
“He’s a great player. Good for him.”
And that’s really the end of that.
