Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray calls replacement referees “The Three Stooges”

While the NFL is forging ahead with plans to use replacement referees to start the regular season, players and coaches are getting more and more annoyed.

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said that the replacement refs didn’t know the rules. Bears kicker Robbie Gould took to Twitter to call the referees, “clueless”. And now Titans defensive coordinator was seen yelling at one the referees during Thursday’s preseason game against the Cardinals before referencing “The Three Stooges”.

Here’s what Titans head coach Mike Munchak had to say about the performance of the referees.

“There were a few things,’’ Munchak said later. “I think they just got a little sloppy at the end. It seemed like nothing was called most of the game and then all of a sudden there’s a lot of calls. At the end of the game there was a little confusion on was the last ball complete or incomplete. It’s things like that that were frustrating but we want them in so hopefully that’s something they will continue to clean up.”

The NFL probably doesn’t see these complaints as a big issue yet. But just wait until they hear the complaints they receive in the regular season.
