Dallas Cowboys running back Demarco Murray’s rookie season turned many heads in Dallas and around the league. Everyone knew that he was an excellent college running back coming out of Oklahoma, but no one saw Murray rushing for almost 900 yards in just 13 games.
But now that he’s put up number like that, expectations have risen and the comparisons have begun. And in Dallas, there’s only two running backs that any back worth anything is compared to, Emmitt Smith and Tony Dorsett.
So when it comes to comparing with arguably the two best backs in Cowboys’ history, some in the organization believe that Murray has a chance to be on the same level of Smith and Dorsett.
There are those in the Cowboys’ organization who believe Murray has a chance to be one of the great ones, like Smith and Tony Dorsett, though Murray is not ready to go that far.
“Those are two legends, two Hall of Famers,” Murray said. “That has never crossed my mind, to be compared with them or to have anything to do with them.”
It may be a bit premature to be placing Murray in the Smith, Dorsett category, but if he can consistently run the ball the way he did last season, he may have a chance one day.
