We’ve talked about the overrated teams going into the college football season, now let’s get into who we believe are the underrated teams this season.
The Tigers finished with an 8-5 record this past season. What many people might not realize about last year’s team is that they were very young, especially on defense. Now a year older and being coached by defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder, look for the Tigers defense to take a huge step this season. The only unknown is what the Tigers offense will look like under new offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler.
We think the Tigers will be the surprise team in the SEC this season.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
The Yellow Jackets also finished with an 8-5 record this past season. They return eight offensive starters and seven defensive starters from last year’s team. As we all know, Paul Johnson’s triple option attack is one of the toughest offenses to prepare for. So when you have that much experience coming back to run that offense, you know they are going to put up some points. If the Yellow Jackets can get by the Hokies on Monday, it could be a special season for the Jackets.
New offensive coordinator Brent Pease will have to figure out who is going to be his play makers on offense besides Andre Debose and Jordan Reed. If Florida can finish in the top 50 in offense, it could be a special season for them as well.
NC State Wolfpack
The Wolfpack finished with an 8-5 record this past season. They return seven offensive starters and eight defensive starters from last year’s team. David Amerson is a shutdown corner that will make teams think twice about throwing his way. It wouldn’t surprise us to see the Wolfpack being undefeated when ACC favorite Florida State comes to town. If they can win that game, the sky is the limit for this Wolfpack team.
