The circus surrounding the New York Jets is off to a rousing start. In just a few days of camp, we’ve had Tim Tebow running shirtless in the rain and apparently not thinking people would pay attention to him running shirtless in the rain. We’ve had ESPN’s small army of reporters giving up to the minute updates on everything happening under the big top in Courtland. And the latest comes from former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason. But he’s not on board with what’s going on with his former team. In fact, he’s dead set against having one player on the team.
That one player? Tim Tebow, of course.
“I’m just telling you right now, I would (cut him), and I’ll tell you why I would,” Esiason said alongside “Boomer & Carton” radio partner Craig Carton. “It’s not in any way, shape or form — I think — benefiting this team.”
All you have to do is watch him throw the ball,” said Esiason. “Just watch him.”
“I just think this whole thing — at least from my perspective right now in relation to who Mark Sanchez is, your starting quarterback — is a major mistake,” Esiason said.
“You can say whatever you want about Tim Tebow,” said Esiason. “He played some of the worst football that any quarterback has ever played in the history of the game last year at times.”
“The fact is … you may want Tim Tebow on this team specifically for one reason and one reason only,” said Esiason, “and that’s the character issue.”
This train wreck is going to be oh so enjoyable. Well, unless you’re a Jets fan.
