Joe Paterno statue removed from outside of Beaver Stadium

Late last week there were conflicting reports regarding whether or not the Penn State Board of Trustees had voted to remove the Joe Paterno statue. Well, it turns out that the Penn State Board of Trustees would not make the decision. Instead Penn State president Rodney Erickson would make the decision. And he decided that the statue be removed calling it a “source of division and an obstacle to healing in our University and beyond”.

Police began blocking access to the statue around 6:00 am on Sunday and by 8:20 a.m., the statue had been removed and taken into Beaver Stadium for storage.

Here’s video of the statue being taken away on a forklift.

A press conference has been scheduled for 9:00 am Monday where it’s believed that the NCAA will levy unprecedented penalties on the Penn State football program.
