You’d had to be blind not to have seen this coming. Never mind that Ochocinco’s contribution to the Patriots last season was next to none, but during the offseason New England signed free agent receivers Brandon Lloyd, Donte Stallworth, Anthony Gonzalez, and Jabar Gaffney. So it was hard to see where Ochocinco would fit in.
Turns out, he doesn’t. And the Patriots, after trying to trade him, have reportedly decided to release him.
After spending Thursday trying to trade wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, the New England Patriots decided to release him, according to league sources.
The Patriots pushed trade conversations with other teams up to near the end of the day’s transaction deadline at 4 p.m. But despite conversations with other teams, there was not enough interest to make a deal.
Ochocinco’s biggest issue in New England was not his ability; it had more to do with his ability to pick up the Patriots playbook, which the veteran wide receiver struggled to do.
Have to think that Ochocinco will catch on somewhere. He still has some production left in him.
