Earlier this month, we told you about a report that the Knicks were planning to throw a big contract offer at Phil Jackson if the team did not advance past the first round of the playoffs. All indications point to the Knicks not advancing past the first round, but reportedly, the Knicks are still planning to keep interim coach Mike Woodson as the team’s coach.

According to the New York Daily News, the Knicks and Woodson have initiated talks to extend Woodson’s contract and make him the permanent head coach.

The Knicks have initiated talks that would keep Woodson as the team’s head coach for the foreseeable future, the Daily News has learned. The talks are only in the preliminary stages but it is clear that Madison Square Garden management is convinced Woodson is the right man for the job and will not pursue either Phil Jackson or Kentucky head coach John Calipari.

This is undoubtedly the right move for the Knicks. Carmelo is already on board with this so you won’t have to deal with him trying to undermine Woodson.

Now if they can just get their roster worked out.
