Amar’e Stoudamire begins his campaign to convince Steve Nash to join the Knicks

The New York Knicks’ season has been over for less than 24 hours, but Amar’e Stoudamire is already thinking about next season. Never mind the fact that some believe he won’t even be in a Knicks uniform next season, but that didn’t stop him from giving his plea to reporters for former teammate Steve Nash to join him in New York.

“Everyone knows that Steve loves New York and that New York loves Steve,” Stoudemire told The Daily News. “I love Steve. It would be great to have him here next year.”

It is believed that the Knicks would have a better chance at signing Nash if his former coach, Mike D’Antoni, was still coaching the Knicks. However, a source close to Nash asked the veteran that same question and Nash responded by saying he isn’t “ruling out anybody at this point.”

Nash, who spends part of his summer in Manhattan, has always been enamored with the idea of playing at Madison Square Garden. However, close friends say that if Nash were to sign for the veteran minimum, he will go only to a contending team, which is why Miami is suddenly emerging as a strong candidate.

“Why would he want to do that,” Stoudemire said, laughing. “This is a terrible, terrible situation here, right?”

If we’re looking at strictly filing a need, New York would be the best fit. Miami’s biggest “need” is a capable big man. They can get away without having a star at the point guard position because LeBron and Wade can pick up the slack. New York, on the other hand, needs a point guard that can help Melo and Stoudamire coexist. Steve Nash is that type of point guard.

If we’re looking at strictly the best chance to win a championship, Miami would be the best fit. No explanation needed on that.
