The NBA has doled out a harsh, but justified punishment for Metta World Peace’s elbow that knocked Oklahoma City’s James Harden out of Sunday’s game. Peace who apologized after the game has been suspended seven games by the NBA which would rule him out of the season finale on Thursday and six games in the playoffs.
Harden has been diagnosed with a concussion and has yet to be cleared to play.
Here’s the NBA’s statement:
“The concussion suffered by James Harden demonstrates the danger posed by violent acts of this kind, particularly when they are directed at the head area,” NBA commissioner David Stern said in a statement. “We remain committed to taking necessary measures to protect the safety of NBA players, including the imposition of appropriate penalties for players with a history of on-court altercations.”
