Troy Aikman says Tony Romo is a better quarterback than he was, Darren Woodson asks if Troy Aikman was drinking

Troy Aikman sat down for a short Q & A session with The Brownsville Herald where Aikman answered a few questions about yesteryear. But things got interesting when he was asked who is a better quarterback between Tony Romo and himself.

As you may have guessed, Aikman was gracious in his answer. He was so gracious that he went as far as to say that Romo is a better quarterback than he is.

“I think Tony already is a better quarterback than I was. I know how quarterbacks are judged but as far as his play-making ability and the things that he is capable of doing, he is a far more athletic quarterback, capable of making more plays than I ever was able to. He has a good team around him and hopefully, and I believe this will happen, I believe that he will win a Super Bowl before he is done playing.”

We have our own reaction to Aikman’s comments, but we will save it and get to Aikman’s former teammate Darren Woodson’s reaction. You see, Woodson doesn’t agree with Aikman’s assessment and he’s not even positive Aikman totally agrees with it. Because he thinks that Aikman had to be drunk to make such an assessment.

“I didn’t hear the comments. One more time,” Woodson, who was a guest Thursday on the Ben and Skin Show on 103.3 [KESN-FM] in Dallas, said while laughing. “What did he say? Was he drinking?”

“I don’t know if I’m biased, but I saw the best every day in practice — and that’s Troy Aikman,” Woodson said. “I love Tony, trust me. Tony’s athleticism is unmatched. I don’t think I’ve seen a quarterback as athletic as Tony Romo. But at the same time, its’ more than just that. When you talk about leadership skills, you talk about controlling the huddle, you’re talking about being a huge locker room presence, a guy that brought his lunch pail to work every single day, [Aikman] is probably the most accurate quarterback I’ve ever seen throw the ball. I throw Troy and Dan Marino in the same class as far as accuracy with the football. But a guy that really understood his role and made people play at a high level around him, they don’t get any better than Troy Aikman. I haven’t seen it.”

Woodson added: “Is Romo there yet? No. I think Romo has to win some rings. He has to win some playoff games in order to be in that conversation. Troy must’ve been drunk.”

So our reaction? Woodson has it right.
