Not quite sure what’s involved here, but reportedly Kansas State head coach Frank Martin has agreed to take the same position at South Carolina. A head scratching move indeed.
A source close to Kansas State basketball coach Frank Martin said Monday morning that Martin will become South Carolina’s next coach.
The source confirmed a report in The State, a newspaper in Columbia, S.C., that said Martin will be introduced as the Gamecocks’ coach on Tuesday. The State also reported that a trustees meeting had been called to discuss “a contractual matter.”
If true, which it seems to be, this move doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to us. Martin would be leaving a program that he’s built into a Big XII contender that remotely cares about basketball to go to a program that is far from being a contender that doesn’t really care about basketball.
Maybe this hire will change all that.
