Jackson, a Pro Bowl receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles, is in the last year of his rookie contract and is slated to make $600K this season.
While $600K is an large amount, it’s viewed as insufficient for NFL top receivers. Jackson has decided not to hold out for a bigger contract but instead will play, risking injury, hoping that the Eagles will give him his due, a new contract.
When asked if he would play if he were in Jackson’s shoes T.O. responded, ” I would have to better myself and my family and my situation……if he goes out and gets hurt….. he’s not going to get the contract he would probably would have gotten if he held out.”
Thus far Jackson has opted not to take the advice of “Dr. Owens,” he will suit up in the team’s opener against the Rams on Sunday. The 37-year-old Owens is recovering from a torn ACL and not on any NFL team’s roster.
