[text-box] A day after falling a game behind the Red Sox in the AL East standings, the New York Yankees learned that they may be losing their mid-relief set up man for the season.

25- year- old Joba Chamberlain has a torn ligament in his right elbow and has to have surgery. Chamberlain underwent a MRI on Thursday confirming he would need Tommy John surgery, a procedure that ends the season for most pitchers.

Chamberlain is unsure how the injury occurred, but his lost places an even greater strain on the already injury depleted Yankee relief pitching staff. [/text-box]
