Shanahan to Haynesworth: We’ll see ya next year, Maybe

Albert Haynesworth
The Albert Haynesworth saga continues as the All-Pro nose tackle was suspended for the remainder of the season on Tuesday for “conduct detrimental to the team.”

Redskins head coach, Mike Shanahan, has been a man of obscurity since taking over the team in the spring.

Along with benching QB Donovan McNabb, he has had a tug war with Haynesworth since he refused to attend voluntary workouts during the offseason.

Haynesworth and Shanahan have had some contentions about the type of defense the Redskins would play.

While in Tennessee, Haynesworth became a household name by playing defensive end in a 4-3 defense, but Shanahan’s runs the 3-4 and preferred that Haynesworth line up in the nose tackle position.

The relationship between the two has gotten progressively worse during the course of the season and now is presumably over, at least until the start of training camp next year.

Haynesworth received a $21M bonus in April and is playing out a 7-year/$100M contract.
