Roger Clemens wants us to believe that he’s a man of his word.
Roger Clemens wants the Feds to believe that he’s a man of his word.
Roger Clemens also plans to drive the point home that he’s a man of his word.
The first phase of driving the point home will be unveiled today when Clemens will keep his word and play his 1st round in the Golf.com World Amateur Handicap Championship in Myrtle Beach just hours after his federal arraignment in D.C.
As of Sunday night, Clemens and his wife, Debbie, planned to play in a golf tournament in South Carolina that begins Monday, sending a message to the public that the seven-time Cy Young Award winner won’t hide his face just because prosecutors think he lied to Congress 2-1/2 years ago.
Roger and Debbie Clemens are scheduled to play in the Golf.com World Amateur Handicap Championship in Myrtle Beach, a $550-per-head tournament that begins a few hours before Clemens’ 2 p.m. arraignment.
Clemens plans to take a private plane to D.C. for the arraignment and aims to be back in the late afternoon to play his first-day round, with a tournament representative escorting him around the course to verify his score. Clemens then will rejoin the rest of the field Tuesday.
So is this Clemens’ way of trying to prove that he’s a man of his word? Is this just the Clemens arrogance seeping through? Or is this just Clemens not wanting to lose out on that grand he dropped to play a little golf?
I’ll go with all of the above.
