Despite all of the doubters, which includes everyone that doesn’t live in the city of Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Reds have hung in there all season and they now find themselves in a pennant race with the St. Louis Cardinals. Even with the Reds stellar play, there was still a reason to doubt that this was a full blown pennant race. Something was definitely missing. Something in the neighborhood of trash talking and pure unadulterated hatred.
I guess Reds second baseman, Brandon Phillips felt something was missing too. And he promptly added what was missing and made this a full blown pennant race.
Phillips fouled a ball off his shin Saturday in Chicago and missed Sunday’s game. But he was in Monday’s lineup and said, “I’d play against these guys with one leg. We have to beat these guys. I hate the Cardinals. All they do is bitch and moan about everything, all of them, they’re little bitches, all of ‘em. I really hate the Cardinals. Compared to the Cardinals, I love the Chicago Cubs. Let me make this clear – I hate the Cardinals.”
Now that there is definitely trash talking and pure unadulterated hate. And thus, we officially have a pennant race in the NL Central.
