The University of Georgia is dealing with yet another off the field issue. But this time, it’s not because of what one of their student athletes has done. It’s because of what the man that is responsible for those student athletes has done. University of Georgia athletic direct, Damon Evans was arrested late Wednesday night on charges of DUI. And upon his arrest he immediately entered into the pantheon of sports related DUI mugshots.
A Georgia State Patrol trooper pulled over Evans, in his 2009 BMW, shortly before midnight at Roswell Road and Chastain Drive.
“The trooper made the traffic stop after observing the manner he was driving,” said Gordy Wright, the state patrol spokesman. “He got him stopped, detected an odor of alcohol, administered field sobriety tests and determined he was less safe to be driving.”
The trooper arrested him on charges of DUI and failure to maintain his lane, and took him to the Atlanta city jail. Evans refused to take a breath test, Wright said.
Evans, 40, was released early Thursday.
Gonna be kinda hard to preach to his student athletes about the dangers of drinking and driving after this. And it’s gonna be really hard to live this mug shot down.
