Raiders release QB Jamarcus Russell

The JaMarcus Russell experiment has officially ended for the Oakland Raiders.

The 24-year-old was released by the team this afternoon after 3 years of inconsistent play in which he showed little growth.

Russell won only 7 games in 25 starts and threw 18 TD’s and 23 interceptions while the starter for the Raiders.

His completion percentage hovered around fifty percent during his tenure in Oakland while accumulating an extremely low 65 QB rating.

The Raiders recently brought in QB Jason Campbell from Washington and signed him to a 2-year deal, making Russell expendable.

Russell was the #1 overall draft pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. He was paid nearly $39M by the Raiders in three years.
