I’m sure that you NFL Draft weekend was filled with memorable quotes. There was so many of them that you can’t remember them all. So that pretty much means that you would have a hard time adding to a “Best Quote From Draft Weekend” conversation. But luckily for you, I’ve found the one and only best quote from the weekend.
Let me set the scene. It’s nearing the end of round one and Minnesota is on the clock. Detroit Lions’ team president Tom Lewand is on the phone negotiating with the Minnesota Vikings for the 30th pick that they would ultimately get and draft Jahvid Best with. This in turn, would eventually compel Lions’ head coach, Jim Swartz to give us the one and only best quote for draft weekend.
Now is the time that I step back and let the man of the hour guide you through the rest. Take it away Coach Schwartz.
“Minnesota’s on the clock, and it’s winding down, and Tom’s finalizing the trade. My blood pressure is going up and up, and Tom’s looking over – ‘Relax, we’re good’ – and making small talk: ‘So, how are the kids …’ Tom’s very good at what he does, and he played it perfectly. But at that point I wanted to grab the phone out of his hand and beat him over the head with it.”
And now for the payoff.
“Some people watch adult videos on their computer,” Schwartz had told me. “I go to YouTube and watch Jahvid Best highlight clips. That’s what gets me aroused.”
