As Details Emerge In The Big Ben Case, Things Get Cloudier

Ben Roethlisberger

While you were out doing what you do on the weekend, details, photos (and more photos), and accounts of what happened between Ben Roethlisberger and his accuser last Friday morning began to trickle out. Some of it looks bad for Ben. Some of it looks good. And all of it doesn’t give us any concrete answers. The only concrete thing we know as of know? The accuser said Ben did it and Ben says he aint do it. But you already knew that. Now onto some of the details you may or may not know.

Let’s start off with the things that paint Big Ben in a bad light.

From USA Today comes an account of a Ben Roethlisberger who was definitely looking for some action.

One bar patron, 21-year-old college student Brandon Harris, said he saw Roethlisberger come in with two or three big men who were keeping other club goers away. Harris said the group went into a curtained VIP area in the back of the club, and some women were let inside.

Amber Hanley, a 21-year-old college student, said she and a few friends were also in the VIP area with Roethlisberger. She said she asked the quarterback to take a photo with her friend, whose boyfriend was a fan, but he seemed disappointed that’s all she wanted. Hanley said she rolled her eyes, and Roethlisberger called her an expletive and walked away. Later, Roethlisberger was aggressively hitting on another girl, Hanley said.

An account from TMZ depicts his accuser as “hysterical” when talking to the cops.

The woman accusing Ben Roethlisberger of sexual assault was “hysterical” when she spoke with cops … this according to a source at the Milledgeville Police Department.

We’re told Ben’s accuser arrived at the P.D. with three other women. According to a source at the police department, Ben’s accuser was extremely emotional and looked like she had been crying for hours.

Take some time to digest those, because there is a flip side to those reports.  Ready?  Let’s dive in.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has a totally opposite account. In fact, their account portrays Roethlisberger as just a guy hanging out.

Others said Roethlisberger was friendly and well-behaved, signing autographs, standing for photos and buying drinks for people.

“I went up and talked to him. He was real cool,” said Hayden Lewis, a student at the nearby Georgia Military College.

A woman who asked not to be named said she saw Roethlisberger and the young woman at two bars — The Velvet Elvis and The Brick. The girl was sitting near him and they seemed to be getting along, she said.

She said she did not see him do anything inappropriate to the girl, and that other girls were also around him.

And to make Ben look even better, Deadspin scoured Facebook and ran across some postings from a few of the bartenders that were working that night.  And let’s just say, they’re calling BS on the allegations.

“He was as nice as any athlete that I have ever met. People were all over him, guys and girls. His body guards kept some people away to let him have a good time. This situation is sad and I feel for the guy. He was out having a good time just like everybody else and now this is blowing up.”

“she was all over him that night…. wonder why he pursued??? she saw $$$ signs.”

So there you have it.  Strap in folks, this one aint going away anytime soon.
