Fed Ex Orange Bowl – #9 Georgia Tech VS #10 Iowa 8 P.M.
The ACC meets the Big Ten in this BCS bowl matchup as both teams would like to finish the season off on a winning note. In only his second season, Paul Johnson has Georgia Tech in a BCS bowl with an offense that many thought would not succeed in the power conferences. Kirk Ferentz was on the hot seat coming into this season and he responded by getting his Hawkeyes to a BCS game and shutting up some critics in the process.
Keys For Iowa
Play assignment defense. Iowa’s defensive players need to play their assignments and not try to do too much because Georgia Tech will make them pay for it. The dive play that Tech runs with Dwyer is the most important play to stop. If that play is not stopped, Tech will bust big plays all night long.
Ricky Stanzi can’t be reckless tonight. Stanzi likes to force passes into coverage. Georgia Tech has a talented secondary and will make him play for it. If Stanzi doesn’t like the coverage his sees, he should check to a running play because Tech’s front seven is not that good.
Get the ball to Demaryius Thomas. I don’t think anyone in that Hawkeyes’ secondary can matchup with Thomas. And with the running game the number one priority to stop, Thomas has a chance to have a monster game.
Force Ricky Stanzi to beat you. Georgia Tech should try to take away the run and force Stanzi to make plays with his arm to beat them. If Tech can make that happen, their chances of winning goes up tremendously.
I expect this to be a hard hitting fight in the trenches with both teams trying to establish their running game. I think this will be a very close but I’m going to give the edge to Georgia Tech.
