Pete Sampras vs. Andre Agassi: A War Of Words

Pete Sampras is pretty furious about the way he was portrayed in Andre Agassi’s best-selling book ‘Open.’

In the book that was released last fall, and the interview tour that followed, Agassi admitted to his use of Crystal Meth and also that he tanked matches during the early part of his tennis career.

Of course, a tell-all book is incomplete without the undue criticism of a close friend or, in this case a enemy.

In ‘Open’ Agassi stated that Sampras “sounds more robotic than a parrot.” He went on to write, “I envy Pete’s dullness. I wish I could emulate his spectacular lack of inspiration, and his peculiar lack of need for inspiration,” Agassi wrote.

Sampras informed the AP that he was surprised by comments in Agassi’s book and realizes that he really didn’t know him as well as he thought he did.

Sampras has 14 Grand Slams compared to 8 for Agassi. He’s married to actress Bridgette Wilson, she’s hot, while Agassi is married to Steffi Graf. She’s tennis royalty, but not as hot as Wilson. Therefore, I conclude that since Agassi couldn’t beat Sampras on the court or in life, he decided to take a shot at Sampras’ character.

Whether these two like each other or not, they will be forever linked. They were the most talented and recognizable tennis players in the world for the latter part of the 20th century. If they want to continue to rake in tennis-related dollars, my advice to them would be: make-up, schedule more celeb tennis player events and smile.
