The race between Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden for the most wins in college football was put to bed this past season. But with an appeal in place to restore 14 wins that Bowden lost due to FSU’s academic scandal, Bowden could’ve at least closed the gap. That won’t be happening now.
Florida State University’s appeal of NCAA penalties — particularly vacating, or forfeiting, 14 football wins — was unsuccessful, the NCAA announced this morning.
The NCAA’s Infractions Appeals Committee upheld the penalties that were announced last March in the wake of an academic-cheating scandal that involved more than 50 student-athletes.
